Girls Cup Tournament

28th Apr 2023

On Thursday our girls football team travelled to Ballymena Showgrounds to take part in the Cup Tournament. This was our second outing as a team and the girls were ready to showcase their football talents on the pitch.

Our first game was against Moorfields. The girls were hesitant in this game as it was their first of the day and although some chances were made by both teams the score ended up 0-0. Next up was Camphill. The girls were 'in the zone' this time and put up a great performance winning this game and then went on to win the last game in their group against Ballykeel. This made them overall winners of the group and enabled them to move into the semi final to play against Gracehill. This was a very tight game with chances coming from both teams but Gracehill took the lead making it 1-0. Despite this the girls kept their heads up and showed great determination to end up levelling the score to them finally winning the game making it to the final.

In the final we were faced with a strong Carniny side and we knew it wasn't going to be an easy game with them topping their group.  The girls fought hard for every ball and made plenty of runs but just couldn't find the back of the net. Things then changed in the second half and we ended up with goals from Sophia and Emily leaving us overall winners with a score of 2-0 to Clough.

Was a privilege it was to accompany the girls to the tournament today and they showed great sportsmanship on and off the pitch. A BIG congratulations to you all!!🏆
