Poppy Art

11th Nov 2021

Over the last few days P6&7 have been studying all about Remembrance Day.

We started of by looking at the famous poem written by John McCrae ‘In Flanders Fields’ and discussed the language used and the meaning of it.

As well as this, we talked about the 2 minute silence and listened to ‘The Last Post’ played by the bugle. We had our minutes silence outside the front of the school at 11 o’clock.

Next, we briefly talked about the famous American artist Georgia O’Keeffe who is best known for her close up paintings of flowers, especially the poppy and then recreated our own using pastels.

Finally, we took a walk up into the village to look at the wonderful display of poppies and talked about the meaning of the colours, why there were 21 poppies and other questions the children might have had.  What a credit to the people of the village for such a beautiful and meaningful display for everyone to see.
